My 20 ft. seacraft c.c. hull id # z666870386 is this a 1970. also I know of a few almost like her and are 69 s to 72 s. but none have teak hatch & deck covering boards like mine. I purchased it from the 2nd owner 18 years ago. still looks great. org. yellow hull. Is this A potter boat you guys are sometimes talking about. I replaced the old teak plywood hatches with solid teak yeare ago. also put on a custom t-top re wired all, new gas tank .etc.over the past 18 years. transom has not been replaced but is sound .everyone at the marina cant get over that she is 33 years young .She rides great w/150 ob.and at only 20ft long I do alot of trolling out to 20 miles offshore in So Jersey.Anyone know history or info on this hull .Thanks Joe R

I was under the impression that pre-'71 hulls didn't have a hull ID number (my 1971 20' CC doesn't have one). I had a 1976 and the hull ID number began with the letters SECF.
I'll be interested to see what answers come to this question, as I thought the final two digits USUALLY refered to the year the hull came out of the mold |

Hmmm....."bought it from the 2nd owner 18 years ago" would seem to indicate that it's not an '86.
The rod storage areas in the older 20's moved around a bit: some remained open to within 4" (such as the '71's and a bit later) of the anchor locker. On the '69's they were a bit farther back and stopped several feet shy of the anchor opening. Examples of several different model years can be seen on the opening page under 20 footers. Do you have a title? and if so, what does it say about year of manufacture? Got any photos?? |

Thanks for the response The boat had no title. however the state gave me one when I registerd it they asked me year and I used 1970 because the old owner guested age and with i.d.# thats what we came up with .I know the dealer who sold most of these boats in so. Jersey back then was in Margate they had Johnson 85 h.p. on them when they were sold new . the dealer is out of business. The boat has anchor locker under bow deck. Then a in deck locker in floor of casting platform ,then a in deck fishbox also in the casting platform. Cut outs in gunnels for rod holders start around where the fishbox is and go to about to end of console. also has gas tank under console on deck w/fill at top of console.pain in the butt to fill.I will try to send some photos in next week when I get my camera back. where should I post photos.....Joe R

Joe, Can you tell me where you found the hull #. I just picked up what I was told was a 1972 cc. On initial exam I could not find an id # anywhere. It does sound similar to your layout. gary

Is the hull ID number that you refer to embossed into the gelcoat (upper starboard side of transom) or is it a tag?

The ID and spec. tag was on a thin alum. plate about 2x3 in .it was on the motor well. when I bought the boat 18 years ago it was hard to read, and it peeled off the hull many years ago. Joe R

Sounds like the TAG is an '86. The actual year of the boat MAY be hard to determine exactly.
I think you can be reasonably certain that it is a pre-'72 Potter hull. I also have a yellow 20' that had a metal tag for the hull ID number in place of where they are nowdays. They apparently weren't embossed into the hull/gelcoat until after '71 sometime, as my '71 didn't originally have hull ID numbers. |
