I was looking for people that have installed a bracket on the 23 Sceptre. I'm looking for a single bracket with swim platforms that doesn't have much flotation. I want the stern to sit down a little more at rest, here is a trend as to why- http://forum.classicseacraft.com/sho...er=3418&Forum=
I have talked to madmax and his stern actually sits higher with the Armstrong bracket, so I'm trying to find a bracket company that doesn't have as much buentcy as the Armstrong. I'm thinking of www.seamount-mattson.com or www.custommarinewelding.com however both of these companies swear that the boat won't sit any lower with their bracket . What do you guys think? Thanks

Lost,
Unless you're definitely going the bracket route and closing in the transom, my suggestion is not for you, but here goes anyway...When repowering my father's Sceptre last season ('97 225 Yamaha), he added a jack plate with 6" setback (another story), plus cut out the in-deck livewell and created a storage area in that space. Things that had been stored in the cuddy (2 anchors and rode, life jackets, etc.) were moved to the new storage space. By moving that stuff to the back and adding the jack plate, he was able to change the at-rest attitude of the boat enough to make the self-draining cockpit do it's job correctly. We guess that about 100#s of stuff was shifted, plus changing the fulcrum point of the engine with the jackplate, was enough to change the attitude. I would definitely look into this option if you're only going the bracket route to change the attitude. It's less money and time, and a lot easier than adding a bracket. |

Scott, Is your dad's Sceptre a Potter built boat? Mine is the CSY boat and I don't think that the Potter built boats are as bow heavy as the CSY ones. I have allready installed a jack plate with the 5" set back. My boat doesn't have the live well in the deck, however it does have a storage area that is empty which is located just aft of the cabin door. The gas tank has been moved soo far back that it is only about 1'6" from the transom. The only thing that I have in the bow is the cushions and life jackets. The anchor and rope is also in the very bow, but I need for it to stay there.

Lost,
My father has an '82 CSY as well (see the opening page of this site). However, he has the 144 gal tank which runs right up to the edge of the cabin door. I'm not sure why you're still getting the bow-down problem with your tank shifted so far back and the engine on a jack plate . |
