Anyone here running a 23 with a 4 Stroke?

Guy around here has a 23cc; he went from an older 225 Mariner to a new 4 stroke 225 Yamaha. He said that he lost about 4 MPH top end. He didn't comment about fuel consumption. IMHO, I would stay with the 2 stroke.

John, I've posted my #'s before but here they are for my twin 115hp Suzuki's on my '78 CC. 4000 rpm's get's me 25.5 knots swinging OEM 23" aluminum props and about 2.8-3.00mpg, at WOT I hit 5950rpm's trimmed and moving at about 38 knots. With 8+ people in the boat 4th of July evening there was no problem getting up on plane and I would have to say speed is MUCH better out of the hole than my single 225 Johnson but not as fast as my twin 130 Yamaha's. My fuel range is incredable and trolling nets between 5-7 mpg. The motors are quiet, and now even quieter now that I have a bracket. Speed between having a bracket and mounting them on the transom is the same or maybe 1/2 knot higher. So much for a 10% performance improvement when adding a bracket. For my money these motors are really a perfect combination of range, reliability and cost. I paid $14,500 out the door installed for both motors(after the Suzi factory rebate)

If you have a CC I would only use these motors with a bracket due to weight, for those of you with a Sceptre or Tsunami where they can be bow heavy, these seem like a logical answer. I cannot see spending 14-16k for a single 225 or 250 when you can get the torque and reliablilty of twins. As for Merc's new supercharged motor, my early opinion is you would have to be nuts spending 18k (?) for a motor with no proven record. ALL FIRST GENERATION MOTORS HAVE ISSUES. Hey, MERC, how long do you think it will be before your supercharger rusts from salt air????? Briguy It's nice to see your posted numbers. I have a pair of 140 Suzy's comming for my old Mako. I have a very low deadrise on this boat. They will be on a bracket.

Nice looking Mako Warthog, my old Mako inboard is also on that site from when we Imroned it back around 1980(Last Call).

I'm just looking to get an idea. I may not be able to get a new outboard this year - depends on a few things - but if I do I want to consider a 4 stroke. I am a bit suprised that nobody here has hung a single 4 stroke on a 23.

Fact is, the only new engine I'm aware of here was the 03 Ficht Hooper got for his.
