Hi Folks,
I am going to look at a 1976 23'Seacraft Tsunami/350 gas/merc "velvet" drive this weekend. The owner is asking 13k and described the boat in excellent shape. I've been told it spent "4 hrs" under water at the dock and subsequently required $8k in repair work. I can't seem to find too much info on this particular model. Any comments or opinions anyone would like to share would be greatly appreciated. Particularly, what to look for at inspection. Thanks! |

Chunga,
One of our members that goes by the name "thedink" (Rich) is currently redoing a 23 CC that went down too. Perhaps you can get in touch with him through this site and see what he has found so far. |

If it is advertising a velvet drive then it more than likely is an inboard. Velvet drive is the transmission which is made by Borg-Warner.

I've always heard great things about the older Seacrafts but never been on one.
From what I gather they are kinda like 35' Bertrams in that if they are restored properly they hold their value - besides being great boats. This isn't for me, I have to stick with my Parker 23SC for a few more years - then it'll be a 38' Stanley.. We'll take a look at it Saturday and see what happens. Thanks all! |

Chunga,
Check out this page on the website. Boat test articles I just bought a 73 Tsunmai with a Ford 302 and mercruiser Tranny. Has a II TR or II TRS outdrive. I'm just getting started, so I can't really help. I would look for rot on all the cored sections. look at the foredeck from below and along the gunnels from below. If you see black fiberglass, it's fungus in the balsa core. Most older boats are going to have some kind of problem with wet wood. good luck. |

Ed, only 2. I had to buy a new trailer for the boat that was stranded in PA. Just picked it up this past weekend. I towed it home myself. I had boat stands, so getting off and on the trailers wasn't too bad.
I wish I could join you guys next week but... |
