Default Transom Holes

One of the hundreds of holes in the outter skin of my transom is this 3" + hole. I have never seen a 20ft seacraft with an original transom . . . can anyone tell me what this was used for?

Looks like it could help you sink quicker if you are in a real hurry.

It almost appears as thou a bracket was planned for that boat and the hole was where the engine cables were going to pass through. Am I looking at this correctly

Who would have thought....

Of all people, the guy with the Grady has seen it before. Check out this pic:

Port side, under the swim platform is a screw out inspection plate. It's painted to match the hull so you can barely see it, but believe me, it's there. I've seen that boat up close.

Why it's there I haven't got a clue. Seems like a huge safety concern to me!

I know on my SF I had a large hole on the Port side for an original livewell. Just like the new ones. Unscrew the access port and screw in one with holed and woila you have a free flowing live pen of sorts.

I do not know if they had these on MA's

It's so when 3 minutes after you launch and you feel the drain plug in your pocket you can reach your hand thru the transom and screw in the drain plug....

How's Cali Tratin' you?? Strick giving you medicinal polyester resin?

merely looks like someone cut out the strainer aspect in yours of the mechanism that Trayder described. If it makes you feel any better, most every 20' I have seen has that same port side hole(s), including the brand new ones today. Here is a shot of what mine looked like before being glassed over -

Thanks Guys - this satisfys my curiousity.

Jason - check out Chris F's master angler. I believe his MA has an original transom and I don't see the hole on his boat. Weird. Oh Well . . . first piece (3 - 1/2" sheets) of the new marine ply transom went in today. The remaining sheets will go in tomorrow.

John R - I'm sniffing glue at least three times a week as perscribed by Dr. Strickland. The other days I sending out resumes and pounding the pavement looking for work. It's been pretty tough, but the glue sniffing really helps keep my spirits up. The weather is the same everyday, b/w 75 - 85 and sunny. I haven't seen rain in over a month and I hear that I probably won't until November. Luckily June 1st we're moving into a new place with a 2 car garage Just in time for the hundred + degree heat.
