I am replacing my stern cleats on my 1969 20 with accon wideline pull up cleats, I was thinking about monting them on the gunnel instead of the topside of the cap. Has anyone done this? Would you mount them horizontal or on an angle (say 30 degress). Any input would be appreciated.

JW, Are you going to have the rope rub across the top of the gunnel? I bought accons for my 20 but haven't mounted them yet. Let us know how it works. I know there isn't a lot of room to work with on top.

These are 8in Pop Up's on brand X.
http://www.classicmako.com/projects/xshark/bw36.htm The Kledgecell core was cut back from the rdge of the cutout and back filled with Epoxy/Cabisol. This created a really solid mount. |

Bobber, Good point about the rope rubbing, I trailer the boat and I would only rarely use the cleats (I currently have no cleats back there at all).

Warthog...I have seen your work and that is part of the motivation for the pop up cleats! Thanks for the refresher.

JW, I trailer mine also. Right now I use a snap hook and clip it to the lifting ring on the transom if I need to tie off.

Miles, JW and I don't have one of those fancy 23's. Our 20's are a little different configuration. I don't know if you can see it in this pic but I kind of like the look with out them.

Bobber,
Mounted my pop up light and pull up cleat on the bow last night...next week I will mount the pull up cleats in the rear gunnels, I really like the clean look you have. I still have a long way to go on my restoration...having started with a $400 project hull...I plan on painting the hull next winter and putting in a new deck and topside painting the year after.
