installing bilege pumps

Still working on my restore and have a question can I install my rule 2000 pump and auto switch with 5200 or 4200.does it have to be screwed into wood that is lam into bilege.thankyou,stephen

I have had them pop out of the 5200 on a Carolina skiff that we used as a classroom. I think the 5200 has a hard time sticking to the blue plastic base. It did last about two months before it popped though. Make sure everthing is clean and free of grease. 5200 will be more permanent.

If you have wood that is laminated in the bilge for mounting the pumps as shown in the picture below, then 4200 is more than adequate. Since they are screwed into wood you just need to seal the hole to prevent water intrusion. I would not go directly to the glass with the plastic strainer [img]/images/graemlins/wink.gif[/img]

If you decide to just glue,use 5200 and put some weight on top of the strainer and fill the bilge with water.5200 goes off quicker in water,I've never had one pop off.

A simple way is to use 5200 to glue a peice of trex or similar plastic wood into the bilge and fasten the pump to that with screws.

I made a simple tray out of G10 that matched the angle of the floor and center stringer.

I then mounted all of the pumps and switches to this. It is held in place by a 1/4" fastner and a wing nut thru the stringer, so that if I ever have a problem with a pump, I can undo one bolt and remove the whole tray to service them.

Here it is seen thru the aft hatch.

It is only 1/8" thick as well, and you can tap into the G10 to mount the pumps.
