Has anyone seen or heard of the engine box in the cockpit of the i/o Tsunami being removed? I have a 74 with a 250 Merc on a bracket and would like to free up the cockpit on an already awesome boat. Thanks

On a conversion it's usually alway's removed and the floor repaired. That's part of the project while doing the conversion and one of the biggest bennifit's, to get more deck space.

Like warthog mentions I'm Surprised they didn't do it when it was converted.
What do you have in the space where the engine was ?? You could have a deck hatch built to replace the engine box. Then you would not have to worry about cosmetics and fairing new into old. I thought I had a picture of what Silverhawk did on their bracketed boats ...but I cant find it. I do remember that that hatch was pretty big. |

where the engine was I have batteries, battery switch, oil tank,bilge- nothing really to stop me from taking the box out and just making a hatch in the floor. If anybody has any pics they would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

![]() I started to type out a long description of what I would do, but it got too long and well... I didn't send it. I have a 1975 23' Tsunami that had twin i/o's and I converted it to (1) i/o. Did a lot of work on the "hole in the floor" - I shrunk it, and conversely, had to enlarge the back wall area. It's a lot of work to do it so it looks like it rolled out of the factory that way - that is what mine looks like. Your situation is very simialar to the one I had, you just have more of it to do. I know how it can be done. It just depends on how much work you are willing to do. It's not expensive, just a heck of a lot of cutting, grinding, glassing and sanding/fairing. PM me with your phone # and I will contact you. PS: Putting a well thought-out hatch in the floor will work too, and might be a really good option if you want to use the area for a livewell or a perfect storage spot. It still would need to be supported well. Either way, you will still have to deal with the back wall. |

I might be interested in your engine hatch if you want to get rid of it.

I have a 78 Sceptre that was repowered...twin I/O replaced with single I/O...and I want to do the same thing, make the engine box smaller. If you could give some details about how you did yours it would be a big help. Thanks!

PM me and I will call you. It is too difficult to type out - it is a nice project, not to hard, but challenging - it is time consuming and you need some knowledge of fiberglassing as well as the ability to think a few steps ahead.
