Default 18' Potter Hull's

Hello Everyone,How rare are these boat's I don't see very many on the site.I just purchased a 1975 from the original owner in fair condition and love this boat already.Has anybody seen one with a full transom with bracket? That's what I got planned for this one being the transom has to be replaced.

downeast-I have a 1989 18'non-Potter and another family member has a 1987 18'SF. The comments I have heard regarding a bracket on the 18'SFis the center of balance being greatly altered to the stern for handling. And, of the few 18 owners, none have gone to a bracket. I have read that bracketing any boat below 20ft is not recommended for the weight distribution reason. Most members say just to get a bigger boat (20SF) if they want more space. What about an enclosed transom with a jack-plate?

Yea I thought about a hydraulic jack and might just go that route, raising the transom height to only 30-35" for cowling clearance.Just curious to know if anyone had seen an 18' with an enclosed transom with a sealed bracket. This kind of application would surely need extra floatation. Thanks for the reply.

I'm not sure I would do it although these guys know better, I had one and if you just use a 25" transom it should be just fine. Mine had a 20 and wasn't bad at all, would get some sloshing if drifting in the Gulf Stream but never bad with the transom door. Just stick witk 2S power, mine had 115 and could have used 150 maybe but certainly no more is needed. Great boat with those wide gunnels, I was looking for one again but found a 20 MA that has the same gunnels, makes all the difference.
