Im looking for a 23cc sf with closed transom, bracket and outboard in which I plan to run nearshore charters and do a lil commercial fishing/diving out of. I know you cant exceed rec limits while enguaged in a charter. I have my 50gt masters and was wondering who will write policys for the good ole classic! I'm also in question of weather to buy a newer model with updated materials to satisfy the ins companies? -Thanks! -Brian

In Florida, I found when I was looking for insurance that boats older than ten years are harder to insure than those that are younger than that. A few companies that I called when seeking insurance for mine had quit writing new boat policies altogether (this was after the banner '04 hurricane season). I finally managed to get Allstate to write a full replacement cost policy for me due to my boat being previously insured by Allstate in NC, and having a current (as in week-old) survey in hand. As of the most recent rate hike, I pay $1K/year for a replacement cost of $38K. Even with the current survey, Progressive, Geico, State Farm, Farmers, etc wouldn't even consider it when they learned it was over 10 years old. Maybe they have changed their policy on that but that's what I came up against.

Charter Lakes will do it for sure. You will have to have a survey. They will write your liability policy as well.Depending on how much hull coverage you want, how much liability coverage, what waters you plan to charter, avg trips per year, lay up time and how long you have had your license will determine your premium. Example,my skiff valued at 12k,avg 2 passengers in the Florida Bay with one million in liability is around 1200.00 per year.My offshore boat with 45k in hull coverage,6 people 20 miles offshore and a million in liability is 2000.00 per year.Being in the Keys they are for 12 months usage.

I have business auto insurance(construction related) with them also through an agent but not business liability. I would say that you probably could get it through them but it would be through an agent.
