Default What Year is it?

I have a dilemma...I thought I was buying a 1980 20ft MA. On close inspection the registration says the boat was built in 1978 but is a 1980 model. How can that be? The serial number is SECM00560678. Can you tell anything from this? Is it a potter era?

SEC= SeaCraft (potter)
M = Master Angler Model
0 = 20'
056 = Hull Number
06 = June
78 = 1978

A 1980 Model = I don't think so. Any Hull month after 08 will be titled the following year. You have a 1978 SeaCraft

Many thanks! Any way of tracking the original/past owners? I would like to find out the history of the boat if possible. The guy I bought it from only had it a few months and did not have much data on the previous owner. He bought it in Fl and towed it to TN and sold it a few months later...he only wanted the alum trailer and it did not fit his deck boat after all.

It is possible that the boat was a left over at a
dealer and not titled by the state until is was purchased in 1980.. Also it could of had warranty issues and went back to SeaCraft. It is anybody's quess.
The ID# on the transom does not lie.
It is a Potter though.

All SeaCraft years are great, but the 1978's are way up there in my book.

datngrizz,
You can try this website. http://www.boathistoryreport.com/pages/free-report.cfm However, they charge about $30.00 to $40.00, and I have never used it so I dont know the quality of the report. Ironically, My father purchased a 78 master angler brand new here in our home state of Florida. The law of averages would suggest it is not the same boat but just for kicks and giggles I am gonna see if I can find the hull number of our old boat that I actually sold in 1995. good luck; the 20 ft MA is an excellent vessel.
