Default new transom or enclose w/bracket?

The time is coming soon for my 73 20sf to get a new transom, it is the original. I am leaning towards an enclosed transom with the bracket. The problem i have is my 225 efi merc is 20" and has low hours and runs fine but will that work on a backet? I know of the kit to extend the shaft but is that a pain? And if i decide to not do the work myself does anybody have a figure on what they roughly spent to do such a job? Any input would be great, thanks

When you install a bracket you can raise the motor significantly. The bracket design can be matched to your application. I would think you will be fine.

I added a bracket to my 23 because I had a new motor that I wanted to use and it was a 25" shaft while the transom was set for a 30". All is well and the boat rides great with the bracket and motor.
