Default Question on Mercruiser 350 MPI

Started my sceptre for the first time this week, after it had been sitting all winter. When i go to crank it over i just get a wining sound like the starter is not engaging to the fly wheel. What could i do to solve this prob without taking out the starter? because it is a a pain in the A--.Any help with this issue would greatly be appreciated.

Find someone skinny and double jointed. There is an inspection window in the Bendix. Try to pry the gear forward against the spring a few times. Shoot it first w/ some penetrating oil.
