Knowledge is the easy part, The special tools are what
will frustrate the heck outa you!! IE: Torch set, retaining ring tool, pullers, press, shift shaft seal tool... and the beat goes on.. $1000.00 minimum in proper tools to do a proper job!! You would be better off looking for a used lower in the $350 range. Or see what a professional shop would charge. Just my 2¢ worth See ya, Ken

I found a used lower unit but it is a 25 in. The guy says it can be cut down to a 20 in shaft. I had never heard of this before. Seems like a waste of a good lower unit. He wants 350 plus 100 to get it cut down. He also has used switch boxes for 50 each. I know what I have and what is wrong and I would rather not buy someone elses junk. I have never took apart a lower unit but I am willing to try.

Do SEI - honest their close to me and I have several people that bought them. On the .net just a couple issues but great reviews. Persoanlly thats the way I would go based on what I have seen on used prices - S-F lowers may have been used hard to, got to check what boat it came of off.
