Default A little disturbed

Help me out here fellas, surely there's a shrink among you.
I am suddenly fascinated by the prospect if an i/o Sceptre with a 5.7l Gsi and a duo-prop (290) I think. Great boat for these parts, me thinks. 21 is far off from safe offshore excursions and Seafari range is limited by motor efficiency

I have no place to park it but may be willing to part with the Seafari or yard (dog) space, if I must...

Thoughts, opinions, prescriptionssomebody help me! - I have a flat tire!

I say buy it, you will have plenty of space to park it at your new place when the wife kicks you out.

Where are you? I'm in Mass, north of Boston. I have an '85 scepter in sound shape that needs a new engine, but the Volvo 290 drive should be fine. One hundred forty gal. fuel tank needs to be replaced and it is on stands.

A divorce necessitates getting rid of it and I'm hoping someone on here might be interested enough to come get and make a reasonable donation the CSC.com. PM me and we can set up a phone call.

What you need is angler management. Make sure the manifolds and risers are fresh. What killed the previous motor that it needed a rebuild? Do your due diligence and if there are no surprises, go for it.

BH,

The engine was running fine when I last ran it, it's been a while. The manifolds were in need of replacement, 1500 + at last count. The engine would need to be torn down and at least checked out, if not rebuilt. At 260 HP, I thought rather than pour money into it, 1300 total hours and in need of new manifolds, I would bite the bullet and put in a new engine in the neighborhood of 315-325 HP. I was topping out at about 36, but cruise was only 21-23. A bit slower than the 26-28 I wanted. Could have been the prop. Cupped aluminum 15 x 17. Never really got into it, my bad. It's got a full stainless and canvas enclosure/ bimini.
Also, windlass, electron's, VHF, FF/DS (Standard Horizon and Furuno).

Gillie - I'm no shrink, but instead of putting money in another boat, why not just put a 5.7L duo-prop in the 21?! Then you'd have the best of both worlds for those trips to Catalina . . . better ride and accommodations than the Sceptre, and the reliability of a new engine! Denny

x2 on the new engine in the 21!
For the money you save on getting & re-rigging/fixing a 23 you can put something like this in the 21:
380HP FWC L96 Small block pushing a 290 Duoprop.

Let the 21 really perform!

I will say I am not a shrink but a 23 Sceptre is a great boat for a long ride anywhere - I would take it over a CC anytime. I'm not crazy about an I/O as I never had one since they were trouble years ago but the boat set up is very nice - mine was an outboard. The water is always cold out there and the windshield is very nice - its another world from a 20 to 23
