Default Any tips for painting an MA transom after recore?

I'm finishing up on re-coring the transom on my 1978 MA and wanted to see if anyone had any tips for blending the paint at the outside edges to match the side hull? My hull is fire engine red with white boot stripe and black bottom, I replaced the transom core from the outside and after scarfing the skin back on I have 1/2" of original paint remaining on the transom side of the edges to blend into. I was planning to roll and tip with Awlgrip "fire engine red", which seems to be a very close match to the hull color. Should I tip into the 1/2 strip around the transom edges and smooth in with fine compound?
