Default 1973 23' cc i/o

me an my buddy are gettin ready to re-do his boat with the intention of selling to generate funds to rebuild our big boat. My question is, i noticed most people remove the car motor and bracket. I realize some people may think the box over the motor is in the way. Is that the main reason for the conversion to outboard?? Does adding bracket affect the ride in a negative way? Obviously with the motor still being good and outdrive still good it would be cheaper to keep it as I/O. Just looking for opinions. Thanks
