Default Hermco Bracket Height

Hi everyone. I have looked at every old post I can find at this point on the topic. My boat yard raised my bracket last year because I needed a jack plate to get the engine in the sweet spot. The logic seemed good but unfortunately it was a terrible mistake. The boat is unusable in anything other than flat come conditions due to the prop blowing out.

I am going to remove the motor and drop the bracket back down. I have the original directions from Don. I am hoping to get some insight from anyone else who has a hermco single bracket and what the height was you mounted it at. I was at 21'' (top of the bracket)the first time and needed a jack plate to get the motor up where it needed to be. I was wondering if anyone has set it up at 23ish inches and any thoughts on if that would effect the performance at all. I want this to be the last time it is moved.

Any insight into the space you have from the keel to the bottom of the bracket would be very helpful.

Thanks again for the help.

Jason

You didn't list the boat or engine shaft length. Don's instructions when I got my large from him for a single 30" were to mark a vertical line in center and mark a horizontal line at 26". This becomes the platform height unless the outer chine to horizontal line is off, then that needs to be tweaked. I can send the .PDF but it won't let me copy it.

Sorry I thought that stating it was a single bracket would be enough info. I have a 25" 300hp Etec. I wish I went with the double bracket but I already had a 25" motor and no funds at the time to repower LOL.

Thank you

Don's instructions that I have are for a twin engine bracket running a single 30". I'm sure someone here has a copy.

Thank you for the info. I have to original instructions that call for 21". That was too low for me and I needed a jack plate I was wondering if anyone installed there single bracket a bit higher then the directions and if there was any negative effects of doing so.
