Default hull number records

My project 23 has had work done around the hull ID#. Is there a database of hull #s that I can access to figure out my number? It is hard to read. Is there any other place the numbers are put? The registration numbers are gone so no luck that way. Had to repo the boat so no help from the last owner! It is either a 77 or 76 with twin I/Os. I want to register it before I put money in it

You could have a real problem there. Those numbers identify the boat both as a SeaCraft and the year build. I took special effort to protect those # when I did my boat I put tape over them and it stills shows the original red gel-coat color I painted the whole boat except for the #. If you title it with out those # it will be titled as (HOMEMADE) and not a SeaCraft hull. There is no other location that they put the # either. If I was you I would either have a plate made and laminate it into the hull near that location or figure out how to bring back the outline of the original #. Maybe you could call Florida title/registration for a better idea. I once bough a 19’ Mako that way when I was a kid I had to title it as Homemade well 2 yrs. later the police came by and said that the guy that sold the boat to me had stolen it and they were here to recover the property I got luck since I and the boat was living in Texas they gave up, they said it would cost to much to come and get it.

Try using a thin sheet of paper and a pencil to do a rubbing of whats left of the origional Hull Id number. Sometimes It will bring out more than you can see. Chances are that the first four letters will be SECR followed by 8 numbers. The last two will be either a 76 or 77. So you need to Determine the middle Numbers (6) and try the tag office to see if you can determine the Hull ID from there. The quickest way is still the Registration #'s or in your case the FL#s on the boat. If they are totally gone its going to be tuff. You said you had to repo the boat, Did you hold Title? Its on there. GOod Luck

Just thought of another way. Buy a small bottle of Dykem steel blue dye in a hardware store. Pour on a rag or sponge and run it over the hull #'s. The dye will pool in any indentation and make it clearer to read.

When we had out lower unit replaced last season, the insurance adjuster used that blue dye on the hull ID#. It works really well.

Your Hull I.D.# should look similar to my log in name. That's the hull # of my '73 center console.
