I have a '78 23' Sceptre with twin 150 Mariners and will have to repower due to the Mariners demise. Was thinking about twin 130 Yammies but I do not believe that motor is still in production. Any advice from Sceptre owners with twins would be appreciated. The boat has a hard top so there is some extra weight.

I would be sure you stick with a V-6 or a inline 4 cylinder. The V-4 seems to be lacking in the low end get up and go. Depending on your budget the 150 carbs, would push the boat just fine or the Evinrude 135 is a sweat V-6 package with some low end punch. Or if 4 strokes are your thing, I would not go smaller then the 140.

Rogue,
I assume you are looking to update to new old motors. If you buy a set of carbed 130 yam's, I think you will be happy overall. I had '89 130's and cruised at 27.5kts and topped at 39kts with 13x19 ss props. I now have 115 Suzukis. The 130's got out of the hole fine and ran 15kts on 1 motor. A V6 would give you extra torque to get up an out with 1 motor but you would burn too much gas all the time.

Thanks for your input, I will be buying new motors and performing a complete restoration at the same time. Will be at least next summer before starting project so I do have time to look at a lot of motors. I am beginning to think that v6's (maybe the new Evinrude E-Tech)are the way to go so that I can run on 1 engine. However does anyone know if the Yamaha 130 is still being made? I have never heard anyone having a problem with that motor.
