Scupper/drain relocation ???

I have read thru the threads of this topic and although there is some great info - there is no real definitive answer whether it is a benefit to re-route the scuppers thru the transom ?

Has anyone had the experience of having both i.e. changing from one to the other ? What's your opinion ?

I have a 23' Tsunami w/ among other things, the transom re-done, and now is the time for me to change this or leave it. I do not like the idea of wet feet. I know that keeping plugs in the drains is a solution, however - I don't like that idea either ( although it is something I could live with ).

Do you have any descriptive details or pix describing the transom scupper idea. do the cone-like scuppers i.e. Rabud work well ? Do the transom mounted scuppers mount above, below or right on the water line ?

Input would be appreciated so I can make an educated decision..

Alan,I installed the Rabud scuppers straight out the back and they work great I dont get any water in at all.It was installed right obove the water line in fact the cone at the rear just touches the water the minute that corner is weighted down the ball blocks up the hole.

When I read thru the old topics on this, I saw you were one of the guys who had done the transom scupper.

Is it possible for you to take some pix of this ? How was the plumbing actually done, converting from the bottom drain to the transom drain ? YOu used the larger cone, right ? Does the cone's drain hole face down to the water ? Does seaweed ever foul it up ?

Do you see any drawbacks at all to having the transom / cone scupper ?

Alan look in the 23 ft section and I think its the last page it shows the scupper ,boat is on the trailer. The original hole was glassed over.Now it goes straight thru to the rear, this work was done by Mike at Wildfire Marine in Stuart. Yes they are the large scuppers and no I havent found any drawbacks at all they work great.Havent had any problems with seaweed,the hole on the scupper faces down so it wont pick up seaweed at least I havent had that problem. sometimes as Im washing the baot bait and debri might plug it up from the inside, I use the water hose and its clears up.As far as the questions thats what this sight is for so fire away. How's this for an idea?

Instead of going directly out the back, what if on the inner liner (aiming out the back) you used on of these



Then aim towards the lowest point of the splash well, on the inside of the transom. All water would drain to the splash well then out the splash well drains.

I believe that the lowest point of the splash well is lower than the deck (on the 23').
