Default Garmin 188c color

For those looking into this color machine,Im sending mine back again these color machines have a problem with the screen delaminating. I spoke with a manager at a local Boaters world and he told me hes had to send a couple back to Garmin. Its an awesome GPS and the fishfinder is great but the screen sucks, so beware if your in the market. RS.

According to your dealer, is this problem limited to the 188C or is it pervasive throughout the Garmin line???

We've had several Garmins, all grayscale, no color, but have had terrific luck all around. I'm crossing 65 miles of open water today using (trusting) one to steer the boat. It better work or I could end up in Toronto (SARS).

I've got the 182C and 320C but they are not installed yet. I'll make a note not to put any SPF 45 on them...

My past Garmin units have been great but I didn't spend much time touching them either.

I'll be careful and hope for the best/

I've had the 182C a little over a year now (since they came out). No problems yet. I did go on-line and did a flash software upgrade. Not much difference in the chart plotter operations. Mostly fish finder stuff for the 188C or use with the add-on sounder module. The screen is too small though for a chart plotter and fish finder. I've got trouble as it is with my over 40 eyes seeing the normal screen.

Mark the manager at boaters world has send some 188 and 182 back to fix the screen. I dont know if all the colors have this probem. My other Garmins that were grayscale worked great never had a problem with the screen.Garmin responded to my E-mail and they said to send it back but did'nt answer my question why this continuos to happen. When you install yours try not to touch the screen at all and when you wipe to clean it make sure its not hot wait awhile after turning it off to clean it. If you start to see little dots they just get bigger and bigger.I'll post on this as I hopefully get this resolved. RS.
