Inboard running cold

Good afternoon gents, i have a 23 straight inboard and after all the problems i had with her overheating at the biggining of the season, now the temp hardly rises at all. It has been doing this since i fixed the overheating issue. What would be the likely cause of the this? i checked the thermostat druing the overheating problem and it worked fine. Also, what could happen if i continue to run with a cool engine. thanks for any help.

Sounds like it may be the sender if everything else is going fine. Feel the manifolds for heat. If they are warm your engine is coming up. You can get (borrow) a mechanic's thermometer to test the temp. Is the gauge coming up at all? I would trouble shoot sender, wires to gauge and gauge itself and then go backand test your t-stat again.

At least its running good,Sounds like its the sender.Disconect the wire and see what the guage, then ground the wire and see what the guage does,it should swing from one side to the other,if it does not swing and you know the wire is good the guage is no good,if it does swing the sender is no good, good luck. Also I was out at crab ledge an got lucky,Sunday 13,no birds,whale,but got a 51" tuna app.75lbs and a short one.Photo soon.going to try the bay next.

Hey Elijah, good to know she is running good!!! Better too cold than too hot!!!!! The only down side of running too cold is a little bit more gas burn (from what Im told anyway). Sounds to me like the sender is suspect also- if you recently changed it make sure it is in a water jacket on the intake instead of a air/gas jacket. That will make it do the same thing also (been there,done that). Let us know - my boat is slowly going back together now- as soon as my new fuel tanks arrive I should start making solid progress- see ya- craig

Now, by sender what exactly do you guys mean? the gauge moves slightly if a go WOT. Other than that i notice no movement. It shouldn't be too price to just replace everything and be done with it right? Rod man, congrats on the tuna, i haven't been out in the bay for a while, trying to save some money for the fall/winter cod run. I heard this past week, was the best it has been in a while on the SW corner of stellwagon. Miles, lets see some more porn! How much were the new tanks, i will be replacing mine next year. The sender is the temp sensor on the engine,you stated at wot the temp moves,sound like the thermostat is opening to early poss.stuck open a little allowing the engine to run cool.When you had the overheating did you change the thermostat? If not I would do it now.Heard the same on the tuna.
