Hello everyone, I am in the restoration process on a 1976 23', The transom was removed and all the wood was Rotten or missing even though the transom did not flex at all with 2 people jumping on the float bracket. My question is this, What changes have any of you made to the transom livewell? It is currently removed, and Now is a prime chance to make it better then before or do they funstion pretty good as they were? I do not like the idea of not draining the well while the boat is in the water and have toyed with the idea of a pump in pump out system. Any ideas at this crucial stage would be appreciated.

Since there have been no replies let me then ask this. Does anyone have any comment on how well their live well works in their 23 with the old style inlet and outlet tubes?

I ripped mine out and put a Kodiak above the deck live well. It works great. I never liked the adea of a below the water line live well. I never got a chance to use the original one in my 23 so I cannot reall comment on it. I think a below the water line livewell is unsafe for obvious reasons.
Heres what I did: This set up keeps the live well away from the transom allowing the weight to be distruibuted forward and keeps the transom clean so you can get to all your bolts for your bracket. I do like the looks of some of the above the deck transom mounted livewells, infact I had one on a previous boat and I will be doing one on my 20sf when I get to that point of the restoration. There is not enough room in a 20sf to do a leaning post live well like the one on my 23sf so I'm going with a small transom livewell. strick

I have the same problem ,I do not use mine and use a cooler for a live well in front of the cc as it a pain to use the factory one.I would perfer a above deck live well. The factory one will be gone when I have to do the floor over and I will get more deck space to boot.

This is were I got it:
http://www.casdvm.com/photos/Leaning...well/index.htm The drain is on the starboard side of the boat at the water line. The overflow is is above the water line on the port side. Hopfully you can see from the pics were the thru holes are located. The plumbing is under the deck. strick

I fabricated my own and mounted it where the newer SeaCrafts have their’s
In this Picture you can see the deck for the tank and the hole for the scoop on the right side of this support. ![]() In this one is the finished job. I made it 32 Gal. ![]() FellowShip _______________________________________________ My motto: Just for the Grins |

Fellow-ship.....I'm in the process of re-doing 2 thru hulls, 1 is transducer and 1 high speed pick-up for bait pump/washdown. I cut 3/4" plywood 6"x6", 45* the 4 edges and applied 3 coats of epoxy. I think this is similar to yours and some others I've seen. Do I really need to glass these down or would a generous amount of 4200 do??? The surface they're going on isn't as flat as I would like for glassing is my biggest concern.

Hey Ryank, I have an 18'sf that had the same sorry floor well. I added an externally mounted transom pick-up from Kodiak. It has a 700gph pump that supplies a 23 gallon oval well that sits on the rear deck. The over flow hose is larger than the supply hose. The over flow dumps over the transom near the engine. This set-up allows me to keep all the bait I need (sardines, blue runners, white-bait)for the whole day.
