Default Four Strokes???

Any 18 or 20 owners out there that have repowered with a 175hp or 140hp four stroke Suzuki or 150 Yamaha ?? If so what is your top end and cruise speed?? Is the engine two heavy for the boat. I have raised my transom 5 inches on my 18 to help with the weight of my 200 Yamaha and she does fine. I'm not sure if I should go with the yamaha because I think I can use my 2005 Yamaha gauges?

I have the 140 Suzy 4-stroke on a 1971 20'. top end is 41 mph, cruise is right at 30mph which yields a fuel burn rate of 6gph, or five miles to the gallon.

I had the floor in my boat raised 2" and have a 75 gallon tank. If I were to do it over, I'd go with a 40-50 gallon tank as the engine simply doesn't burn much fuel and the space could be used better than that huge tank.

While the engine works fine fishing with two people, if you plan on taking a lot of gear and 3+ people, I'd go with something bigger (weight permitting). then again, fitting any more than 3 people is going to be tight on that boat, regardless of what power you have.

Irrespective of horsepower, having now had a 4-stroke, I'll never go back to 2-strokes. Never.

I have a master angler 20 with a 2006 Suzuki 175 4-stroke. The boat will run 51-52 mph/6000rpm.It has bottom paint but no t-top.I have the stock 25"transom with the orginal floor height. It is a little heavy but not too bad.

I have a 1986 20 CC with a 2005 Yamaha four stroke (25"). It's probably at the limit as far as weight goes but it sure is a sweet motor. 41 mph at 5100 rpms of the gps. Nice and quiet. I don't think you can go wrong with any of the nice new motors out there.

I just bought a 2004 150 FS w/ 200 hrs that will match up to my current Yamaha controls. I will send pic’s when I get the new engine on.

Hat trick what pitch prop do you have on your 150Y?? This 150 came with a 18 pitch SS prop.

For some reason I can not log in with my Yellow 18 password?

My first run with the 150 Yamaha FS went well. I still need to figure out which tachometer setting is for Four stroke. With an 18 pitch SS prop, 50 gallons of fuel, t-top, 225lbs driver and no idea on the max rpm I got 41.5 kts or 47.8mph. She planed off much faster than my old 200 Yamaha w/ a 23 pitch wheel- but I miss the 60 mph. I think she sits about ¾ of an inch lower in the water.. I have a 25 inch transom and I highly recommend any 18 owner to raise the transom if they put a heaver engine on the back. I will send pic’s soon.

I've got an aluminum prop because I fish in pretty skinny, sometimes rocky water up here. Right now I've got a 14 1/2 x 17.
