I have a 85 I think it is a 20 Superfisher. It has those wooden Chimes on the hull. What is the use of these and should I keep them on? They are in good shape but should I paint them with regular bottom paint or one for wood Thanks Mad B

They are commonly referred to as "spray rails" and as the name suggests they are to extend the chine and deflect spray down and away from the boat. I had these on one of my 20's and ended up removing them. They looked cool but I fell they changed the performance of the hull design in a negative way.
If you keep them on and you refinish them sand real good and apply many coats of polyurethane. They are attached to the hull with a ton of 2 1/2 ss screws. It took me 2 weekends to get them off and then I had some glass repair to do as well. |
