chris craft 212vf

just picked up a 1985 chris craft scorpion 212vf for the 150 yamaha 4 stroke with 60 hours . was going to put the engine on my WAHOO! but, the boat looks really nice after cleaning it up . has anybody had one?

I haven't had one but looked at several of them before I found my Seafari. I think I passed because the transom and gunsnel were very low. I thought they were a very nice boat, nice dry ride and very classic seafaring lines. I checked out 212, 213, and 215 models which were dual console, cuddy, and walkaround. Got a lot of 21' Chris Craft Scorpion boat porn somewhere on this computer.

Not a lot of them out west so prices were kind of high 5-6K w/20 year old power and 10 to 12K for mid '90s power. Check out the feedback I got on http://www.thehulltruth.com/forums/t...ts=16#M1497904

From what I remember, I think Murray, the bicycle & lawnmower guy bought C*C in 1980 and brought the Scorpions to life. The early ones were pretty good. And then skyrocketing cost of glass caught up to him and drained his pocketbook and C*C was going under financially. '85 or 86 were considered probably the last of the solid hulls by that time they were renamed Seahawk, and shortly thereafter maybe '88 OMC bought the group and I think several hull failures led to deaths and lawsuits. From what I understand this occurred on walkaround or cc. Water would come in, flow astern and the weight would cause suspicion of a motor failure, everyone would move to the transome, water would follow and suddenly boat is flooded from stern and goes down. Keep in mind those boats were designed for an era when 330 lbs 2 strokes were the norm but they were rated for 225-230hp... very fishable, fast, sweet looking boat. Good luck.

read the thread from the hull truth, now I'm a little paranoid. maybe I should stick to my plan and put it on my UNSINKABLE WAHOO! Problem is I'll need new controls and I kinda bleww my budget.

Don't freak out Wahoo , That Scorpion is a fine boat. If you have one, run it. I'd be in one now if I hadn't convinced the seller that maybe he should keep the boat and give his health a chance to improve . Would I trade my Seafari for it - no. Not now that I have one, but the V-20 BigShrimpin spoke of, and the Scorpions are still high on my list. By the way nice photo, Bigcoddin.

That hull is the wellcraft v20 steplift with different chines. I have an email from John Deknatel a few years back about the hull. Here's a pic of a v20 next to a powercat going off to the bay of pigs invasion.
