Stupidest thing you did on your project
I can't be the only genius (sarcasm) here who did something stupid on their project. Here is my most stupid moment so far. I had this nice perfectly flat piece of plexiglass and started thinking it would make the perfect backing for a large area I needed to fill in. I normally use visqueen over plywood but it leaves these annoying ripples in the surface. Google said that epoxy wouldn't stick to acrylics. Um... I beg to differ. I now have a huge chunk of plexiglass permanently affixed to my hull (at least until I take a grinder with a cutting wheel to it). Time to invest in some partall and formica (shortcuts don't payoff).
I can't be the only idiot here. What kind of mistakes did you guys make on your projects? |

Re: Stupidest thing you did on your project
Contemplating the many stupid things done boggles the mind. It is like a trip down gastric distress lane. I have narrowed the list to just under 100, all tied for first place.

Re: Stupidest thing you did on your project
Not using enough MEKP to catalyze resin (or using enough maybe a bad batch that was old) on the first layer of the first bracket I built . . . then trying to pop it out of the mold. Still don't know for sure, but removing the uncured resin and fairing an sanding almost ruined me. Thank god for chuck (strick) and Jorge to help me through the process.

Re: Stupidest thing you did on your project
Replaced a starter on a 350 chevy inboard (23 Dusky) while doing some other motor work...for three weeks the boat would not run...sounded great when turning over, but wouldn't start. Spent many days trying to figure it out. Then when standing by the exhaust muffler while it was being turned over...i heard a sucking noise... that's when i realized the starter was spinning backwards...after that if fired right up :-)

Re: Stupidest thing you did on your project
Replacing my through-deck scuppers in my 20', and only measuring one side for depth/length. I cut both scupper tubes and got ready to install after the epoxy cured. Turned out the other scupper was almost 1/2 inch longer.
