seamaster 27 flybridge
I am about to close on a deal for a 1969 seamaster 27 flybridge with twin chrysler 360 inboards, not running.Should I remove and replace these engines with new longblocks and reinstall(keep original) or opt for two new packages.Any ideas on cruise speed/fuel burn with these current engines?

Re: seamaster 27 flybridge
Buy Bowriders Seamaster and save all the hassle. Be ready to fish in a day...
Otherwise go new why take a chance.

Re: seamaster 27 flybridge
The Chrysler 360 is a very tunable motor. New long blocks is certainly an good option. I highly recommend that if you do this, you update the ignition system to electronic CDI ignition, rather than the points-triggered coil which was standard. The regular conversion kits for the 273/318/340/360 V8 motors is only $226, including new distributor from MoPartsracing, part # P3690426. This alone will increase fuel efficiency by 12-15%.
This is NOT a marine distributor, put without points, the difference is unimportant, and you save $250 over a Mallory CDI marine distributor. For other stuff, you can go to Hurrikain Marine or Ebasic Power for lots of Chrysler marine parts and stuff.

Re: seamaster 27 flybridge
Assuming they are 215 or 225 hp models, you should cruise at 22-25 mph, and WOT should be 30-35 mph, depending on a bunch of different factors. If they were the 240, 275, or 300 hp models, you'd go a bit faster. The 360ci was even available as a 340 hp inboard in 1971-72, using roller rockers and a high-lift cam.
You can get Chrysler marine 360 long blocks from California Engines for $1300 plus core and shipping.

Re: seamaster 27 flybridge
Nothing personal about your deal BUT Island Trader had the best advice by far unless your getting the boat for free. Lots of labor in that project yours or somebody else's and the performance and fuel will be better with those outboards - just say'in

Re: seamaster 27 flybridge
the outboard conversion is nice, but you lose the originality of this classic. I love the look of the clean transom with the huge transom mounted rudders hanging on the stern.
