'76 septre value
I have a '76 cuddy cabin 23ft sceptre in good prodominatly original condition. Does anyone know the resale value range for this boat?

based on the fact they are not near as desired as the 23 center consoles , i see very nice ones sell for @ 5k all the time, i have often said if i had a place for it i would own one . great boat. |

I agree they are less $ due to popularity. They were more $ in their day. They average maybe 2k less than the SF's. They are also more commonly given away when a seller is a family member (wife,son, relative from an estate) or a uninterested owner. the SF's are owned by purists more often while Sceptres are multifunctional which opens the door for different uses than just the best 23 ever built for ride quality.
For a Sceptre seller that has awareness of it's hull and outfit it properly, I would say $8-10k with older power, 12-23k with newer power, $5k with a suspect transom and old power. And below $5k for an Incomplete/non running rig.

How long have you owned it? How many hrs of use per year? What is the state of the decks, hull, electronics. You have to list all of it and show pictures if you want a legit idea. Without listing boat condition and only discuss the trailer quality, I would assume it may be in the 5-8k area.

Keep in mind Lil' Kenny picked up his 1987 in bristol condition with a
perfect trailer for 4K 2 months ago! Hydraulic steering, Suzuki gauges, bracket, no power... Brand new cushions (still wrapped in plastic) for the entire cabin. Captains chairs with cushions........ VHF radio and antenna...

Outboard 225 johnson, tralier just got new bunk brackets, running boards,tires, lights, wench. Tralier frame clean, no rust. Folding Canopy top.

Thanks. I will get some pics and post them. You are correct, my father past away almost a year ago. Before he died he gave me the boats. He owned the boat for probably 30+ years and has been in storage. The motor is a 1993 Johnson bought new. I dont know how many hours but do know they are VERY low. It is in running condition, just had new fuel pump, solenoid and carbs cleaned. Hull, apolstry, decks and transom are in excellent condition. No electronics. Paint is clean, no chipping or cracks.

The 1987 isnt the Potter Built hull though. It is my understanding those increase the value.

Sorry to hear about your dad! The 87 is an excellent vintage 23. Potter glass lay-up is well documented and also are the rotting cores in the decks and transoms after 30 plus years. Your right people Will always seek out the Potter and for good reason. What people miss is the quality in all the 80's boats ( we have owned an 87,88, and 89. And I can tell you that none of our 80's boats needed a transom and they were untouched from the factory. Both of my Potter boats have had soft cores- mainly age, but NOT only age caused the bad cores.
