Dan, I recently purchased the 188c which is the same as the 182c.Its a fantastic unit. I was going to get the 162 but when I saw the color I was sold. I just got it back from Garmin I had to send it in I had a problem with the screen someone touched it with some kind of chemicals in there fingers and meSsed up the antireflective covering, they sent me a new one.The sonar part of the 188 works great you can change things around and put the sonar on one of the windows with other info you want to know, I really like this unit, you just got to be carefull not to wipe it with glass cleaners or chemicals. RS.

I HAVE THE 182 BOUGHT IT ABOUT 18 MONTHS AGO WORKS GREAT, VERY USER FRIENDLY AND VERY ACCURATE. IF I HAD TO DO IT ALL OVER AGAIN I WOULD NOW BUY THE 182C SINCE THEY ARE OUT. I HAVE NOT BOUGHT ANY BLUE CHARTS YET. I AM CONCERNED THAT IT WOULD BE TO MUCH INFO ON A GRAY SCREEN. I DON’T FEEL THAT WAY ABOUT THE 182C DUE TO THE CONTRAST OF THE COLORS.

A friend of mine has the 188c. The best feature is the brilliant color screen that is easily viewable all day. I ended up buying the big daddy 2010c with the 10 inch screen and fishfinder option. I can't wait to hook it up. Go color, you won't regret it.

The 182 and 182C are both great units. For what it's worth, I went with the 182 instead of the color 182C. Money was one consideration, but here was my reasoning.
The 182C has a less resolution (320x234 vs 360x240) more is better. The 182C has a smaller display (5.5 vs 5.0) bigger is better. The 182C has only 16 colors, and the 182 has 10 scales of grey, so your really only get 6 more levels of detail (but the color does look pretty). The 182 can have either a built in antenae or a remote, the 182C only has a remote. I have used both units quite a bit, and for me, the color on the GPS wasn't a big deal. On a fishfinder, it's a whole different story, but either one will work great. They are great units.

DID YOU GO WITH ONE OF THEIR BLUE CHARTS??? I HAVE GOT CLOSE TO PULLING THE TRIGGER ON A CHART BUT EVERY TIME I END UP PUTTING MY MONEY BACK IN MY POCKET. I AM WONDERING (ON THE WATER WHEN EVERYTHING IS MOVING AND BOUNCING AROUND) ARE YOU ABLE TO SEE/READ THE CHART INFO OR NOT. FELLOW-SHIP [img]images/icons/rolleyes.gif[/img]
