Fuel tanks

Hello all, greetings from Bermuda.

I was wondering if anyone might know the dimensions of the fuel tanks in a 1986 23 Seacraft. I think I need new tanks as she was originally a gas engine. Everyone I have spoken to says put in new tanks. I don't really want to rip up the decks until I have new tanks ready to go in. I'd appreciate any help.

Welcome to classicseacraft.com. What model do you have? My 89 23CC has a 133 US Gal tank that measures 28" wide x 11" high x 116" long, that I replaced from sptanks.com for US $800.

My '73 C.C. O/B tank measures 69L X 28W X 12deep. 100 gal. had one made by Luthers in Rhode Island for $600.

Hi, thank you for responding.

I have a 1986 23 cc inboard. She is powered by a 200 volvo diesel. I think part of my problem is that the original gas tanks don't have a return line. I was trying to figure out if all 1986 inboard tanks would be the same measurement?

I would find someone to build a tank then remove the old one and have them copy it or if you find you have room you could have it made larger. I would want to see whats down ther before you had one made. I dropped my old tank of at Luthers in RI and they had a new one all ready to go in less than two weeks. Good luck Jon

Being a Volvo Dealer I have never seen a return line going back to the tank. THey use the same method that todays EFI engines use. THe return is fed back to the incomming fuel supply at the engine. Most of the times it dumps back into the spin on fuel/water sep. filter. This saves the boat builder from running extra lines and they can use standard tanks. I also believe that returns are not allowed by the coast guard. You may want to contact your local volvo dealer and ask them about it.
