Boat transport
I bought a 1979 20 ft Master Angler. The boat is in Clearwater, FL and needs to be delivered to Rhode Island. I've got quotes from 1stAboard participants that range from $1200 to $1800. Can anyone give me any input or insights on arranging this type of transportation? Things I should avoid or recommended vendors? Any insight or help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks. [ August 06, 2003, 07:51 AM: Message edited by: Roger ]

Re: Boat transport
Is there a trailer? I might consider the drive if I can tow it on a trailer. You can e-mail me at pappion47@hotmail.com

Re: Boat transport
Roger-
If you're up for a road trip....Fly down to Florida on Southwest from TF Green (about $140), rent a Uhaul (about $400), and tow the sucker home. I've done this twice (once from Texas and once from Florida) and it was a blast. One thing sucks....those Uhauls get terrible gas mileage but it sure beats putting the wear & tear on your own vehicle. Be sure to check the tires (blow outs at 65mph on I-95 aren't fun...believe me) and replace bearings & seals before you leave. In all honesty, if you can get someone to haul it up here for about $800-1000, when all was said & done it probably cost me that much in gas, hotel rooms and blown tires. -Ed- |

Re: Boat transport
Ask for Greg Ammarall - 508-726-9761
He's out of Marion Mass. The idea is to have him get your rig WHEN he's getting someone else's - reduction of cost... You will need to have a facility forklift or sling the boat onto his truck...

Re: Boat transport
Thanks for the suggestions. After I posted the question I found www.boattransport.com and entered my information. I got several calls within the hour and settled on Express Transporters for $1,100. If I had the time, I'd have loved to do a road trip, but that was not in the cards.
