I am on my 3rd outboard for my 20 ctr cons. 1st was a 115 yahm. good on gas did about 40 mph. then went to a 120 evenr. not as good on gas but around the same speed these 2 motors were 4 cyl. carb. I now have a evenr. 150 carb. with this power I do not have to push as hard. to get the speed I want and it burns less gas at mid range 3000 to 4000 rpm. Bring it up to 5200 with myself and about 30 gals of fuel she hits 48 mph. I think a 135 is a good as it is a 6 cyl. Specs. on my boat 20 ctr cons. with t- top and top mount ant. boat is 1970 w 1999 150 even. P.S. Make sure you have the right prop. for your boat. Joe R

Hi there, ive got a 20 seafari which i think is just a bit heavier .Ive got a newer 130 johnson , on it at 4300 im running 27mph burning 6.5 gph , at 5200 im running 32mph burning around 8.6 gph I
havent topped the motor out which I guess is around 6100 or so , currently using a 15" 17 pitch prop. . Im sure youd be a bit faster with the lighter hull.Hope this helps a lil bit.

Thanks for the replies,I kind of thought that 135 was enough.

Watch out for model year 2000 outboards from evinrude or johnson. This year engines have there problems. This is when the old company was trying to save there company from going under and alot of shortcuts were taken. Gearcases and rod bearings are a big issue.

Joe, can you be more model specific. I sold a lot of Johnrudes new and used thru the fall of omc and rise of Bombadier, but I haven't heard about inferior gears or bearings being used. But it wouldn't suprise me if they had.
