My 23'CC SeaCraft has a cut out in the center of the transom for a 25" motor. I have measured the transom height on either side for twin motors and it is 25". Can I mount twin engins on this type transom w/o cutting out to accommodate 20" motors or fill in the center cutout or will it take two 25" motors as is?

Take a look at my transom (Scott McLeod's 23 Sceptre). Does it look like that? If the center cutout measures 25", then the original transom would be 30". In a twin setup, you would use 25" motors. Do NOT cut the transom down for 20" twins, with all that weight you'd be taking water over the back. Replace the missing section and go with 25's.

Bob,
I had a single 225 Johnson on my '78 23 MA. I just had the cut out fiberglassed over and mounted my twin 130's 2 bolt holes up. The fit like a glove. The same when I replaced the Yam 130's with my 115 4 stroker suzi's. Just put a bracket on and solve the prob once and for all. As for performance, I noticed no difference in the ride by going from a single to twins. I did however feel a noticible improvement in ride quality by adding the bracket to my twins.

I have 2 20" motors you could buy cheap to try out ... My boat has twin 235s on it (yes, that I'm selling) and it's a flat 25" notch not a 30 transom cut in the center to 25. Also seems like you would have that extra cut getting in the way of mounting 25's around it...

thanks to all for you comment and guidance. It seems to be easier and less expensive to remain w/ a single engine. There is a lot of work to be done to this boat, so I'll make a final decision this winter when I begin restoration in earnest. If I find rot in the transom, then I'll repair and mount twins.
