Re: Speakers
Abe,
I like the Bose 151 and 131 environmental speakers. I have learned that if the speakers are not out of the wind and directly in your face, they have little value underway. I will be installing the 3.5" dia. Polyplanner waterproof speakers directly in the console with the guages facing right at me. A nice 200 watt amp never hurt anybody...

Re: Speakers
many stores have a row of different ones that you can listen to and see which ones sound the best within the price bracket that you wish to spend in. If you've got the space and the checkbook, Bose are hard (impossible?) to beat. I've had Jensen (a bit tinny) and recently bought Polyplanar, which I thought sounded a bit better than the Jensen's. I would like to have gone with the Bose but didn't have space.

Re: Speakers
Just be careful to place them where they will not affect your compass. The console on a 20 does not leave much room, which is why I had to remove the speakers from my boat when I got it.

Re: Speakers
Just like Roger says .... But they sell "magnetically shielded" (Jensen) or "premium series low magnetic field " (Polyplaner) speakers to help cut down on interference ...I don’t know how much they help.. I would listen to them to make sure they isn’t a great decline in the speakers performance due to the magnet change ( speaker sound quality is rough at best on a boat .... no less an open boat )
Yes …. I’m also looking to replace some speakers ….and need to fit in a five inch cutout (the old cut out clearance) |
