Killed the bass today!

Well at least in my mind I did.

I was fishing fresh herring chunks in the Merrimack River inlet today and I caught approximately 10 striped bass. Two were pretty small but the majority of them were about 25 inches. I know, I know....none of them were keepers but damn it was fun.

Ed you need to come a little(OK alot) further south down in to CC Bay. I took my dad fishing last night to a spot that I've gone to for the last three nights and hit paydirt. Last two nights the fishfinder was loaded with fish but they were fussy I had to settle for big blues(34") when the sun set feeding bell went off. Last night was a differnt story foggy rainy, windy and only four boats there total and two of them where Seacrafts. My dad caught his first ever keeper at 34" and followed that performance up with a fat 40" fish that put up a fight like you would not believe from a bass, I was sure that it was a shark until it was in the boat. needless to say he was very pleased. Top it off with a 31knt. run into the wind to get home and you've had a SeaCraft night. The fishing down here is getting really good six keeper bass this week, that must be the reason I've put 59hrs. on my new engine since July third [img]images/icons/shocked.gif[/img] head south man head south! I'll be down south in no time. Next weekend me and the Mako will be in Newport for the classic seacraft gathering and then from August 16 - August 31...I'll be in Nantuket with the Mako. HUGE BASS down there....especially at dusk when they head in toward shore to feed on the sand eels. My brother caught a 43incher last year.

Jon,
I've been hearing reports of good size bass way inside CC Bay, I wish my dad was up for the run down there.

Tuesday night I went out with a buddy over to Race Pt./Peaked Hill Bar and got torn up by 5# bluefish (good for giants, bad for stripers!). Only 1 semi-decent bass (15#) to show for a full night's work. Oh well, that's fishin'.

Barnaby - why do that ? We often have Mahi Mahi withing 40 miles of Newport and less than 20 from Block [img]images/icons/smile.gif[/img]
