Questions about 23cc outboards
I am looking for a new 23 and was wondering if anyone could tell me what the quality difference is between the 1970's and 1980's models? Why so many of you are putting on brackets, is it a performance issue or a preference? I owned a 1987 23 with a single Armstrong bracket and I would rather a motor well. As for quality, it was solid with very few cracks but I have been told some horror stories. I would appreciate any advice to make my next purchase a success. Thanks Bobby

Re: Questions about 23cc outboards
Hi Bobby and welcome
You really need to go back on previous threads, there is a handful of them that are well versed that I'm sure will answer all your questions without rehashing them Pay attention to Capt C with his "I've got a little problem" As far as the bracket deal, I'm going to install a bracket on my 23' because the transom is 25 years old and is needing replacement. As long as I'm going thru the expense, I might as well increase my interior space, get rid of the half-ass floor bait well, make the boat more safe and inherit a 6' dive platform. I was leery about the performance and handling differences but everyone who has completed the bracket transformation have been quite satisfied, plus I have rode on several with singles and twins and have been impressed. Remember that the new 25' SeaCraft is just a 23' with the integrated bracket. Good Luck with your endeavors and enjoy the reading!

Re: Questions about 23cc outboards
Hi Chuck! I like your signature pic...is that what your boat looks like after you've fallen off??!!
The best point is the the new 25 is a 23 with a bracket.. I miss mine...decided to cut out the lower deck and am glad I did...found wet core and foam and wet spacer crud. Going to get the Dusky console and make the front seat my fresh water tank. The side door is big enuf for me to squeeze in. There is something about redoing a boat to keep that makes it all worth while Bill |
