can I get any ideas about prop size?
I have a 1976 20 MA with the big enclosed head center console, also have new coating of Micron bottom paint, no t top, but a tower for antennas and radar dome, I have a 150 Evinrude Ficht with a 14 1/2 x 19 prop on it, and am only able to get 43-4400 RPMs at WOT, if i drop down to a 14 1/4 x 15 prop i should get 1000 more RPMs theoretically and put me in the right range. Engine is clean, runs smooth, it isnt the engine, that has been verified, just dont want to keep buying new props to find the right one. Anybody have a 20 footer with a 150 hung? if so what sized prop do you have?

Hi Fishez
I Have a 83' 20 Ma 95' 150 Merc. 5800 RPM with a Mirage II 17P . I've added quite some Xtra weight after the rebuild,So I've lost speed for this reason? .The set-up before was Great. Scream'n Reels' WELCOME

Capt Brad
what top speed are you getting with the 17p Mirage. I have a 73 20ft SC with 200Merc (Carb) tops out at 48 mph.I was running a 19pitch and was doing 50mph but my low end speed is better now those extra 400rpm help when facing rough seas in the 3000rpm range. I was thinking of going to a Laser 19P less (diameter) and quicker. Application for the Mirage is big boat with big HP. While the Laser is for small boats with big HP. |

Re: can I get any ideas about prop size?
When I was running the Mirage Plus, I did not like it at all. I switched to the Laser II and it was a huge difference.
RN, if you may wish to try the 21 Laser first. I think you will find that the 19 Laser will be too small for your setup....

Re: can I get any ideas about prop size?
I had a 20ft Sceptre with a old 150 Johnson and I was swinging a 14 1/2x17 pitch. I'm wondering if your tach could be off a little .

Re: can I get any ideas about prop size?
What it was was my A/V plate was too low, so i raised the engine and can get 5800 with the 14 1/4 x 15 cupped.....i will use this prop when im carrying a large load, and switch to the 14 1/2 x 19 when by myself, which is rare. I have the boat loaded with custom tank where the enclosed head should be, and carry as much as 100 gals of fuel if i go offshore, that is why i need the small pitch, also carry a 50 gal kodiak tank along with the corner tank i load for chumming. I get about 43 knots now with the 14 1/4x15

FishEZ - check your private messages. Do you fish the guide seamount in your MA?

Re: can I get any ideas about prop size?
i fish the guide but because i prefer to catch my fish on iron, swim baits and fly lining, I end up running out of the bay because of the live bait receivers, so when i do go to the guide, its a long haul. A few years ago, in really sloppy conditions, i was fishing just short of the guide, as i gaffed a fish i hooked, i looked up and saw the Fishin Machine...Bob Franko...with some guy on his boat with a camera, They were filming the albacore section of the hooked on fishing series. A friend bought a copy and in a segment where they talk about how the advent of "modern, and newer" boats, has enabled the small boater to chase albacore, the boat they show in the worse weather of all segments, is me and my buddy in my "new" 1976 MA. That to me is a testament of the ability of the hull to weather the seas, that day the only boats out were party boats and Franco's 30 footer...LOL
