Default Bow rail, 20 ,deep 6 or repair

My low design bow rail on my 20 Potter cc , One of the stand offs is broken the rail is scratched up a bit but not pitted. I was thinking of removing it ...Anyone here take theirs off? Do you think it takes away from the look or value of the boat with the rail removed? Any safety issues? I am thinking of removing it and put some screws in the holes. I know it will be hard to match the 35 year old gel coat. the rest of the boat is all org. and in very good cond. It would be EZ to wash or wax the boat without the rail Joe R 1970 Potter cc

Repair it and put it back. You can probably get standoffs from one off the members who up graded to stainless and besides it really comes in handy if you fish in crowds or off-shore. - PF

Hi Joe

I recommend you replace them all. I think there is only 10 or so. Taco makes some "GUCCI" polished Stainless steel ones. That low rail is one of the Classic SeaCraft inventions

Just to be clear, are you talking about the rail that came in the 20' Master Angler (like in the 23') or merely the 3" high off the cap version in the standard 20'? If it's like the one in the 23's, a few companies make a really nice round post with hex nut right through the top/middle to replace the original ones and they are a significant improvement. If it's the 3" standard low rail, I'd unbolt it and find the closest dumpster.

I've been looking for something like that. Do you have any more info so that I can look into it?

Roger, let me give the guy who redid mine a call and find out where he is getting those. He redid a 23' last year that had replaced the rail and posts and it was the nicest I have ever seen. I'll ring him and get back to you on that one.

It is the 3 in low bow rail that is mounted on the top of the gunnel ,not the inside type thats on the MA . It starts about 12in from the bow and gos down each side past the console ,I see most restored 20s took them off for a cleaner newer look .The boat is 35 years old but orig gelcoat is still fairly good along with the fighting lady yellow hull. all the teak is varnished as well. I am not to good with the camera but there are some photos of the boat in the gatherings form at the N.J. Flying Cloud get together MY MAIN CONCERN IS FILLING THE SCREW HOLES THAT WILL BE TO THE DECK. I guess I have to think if I want to keep everything Orig. THANKS Joe R
