I have a problem and I am hoping for suggestions....I recently bought a 76 CC with a blown motor, the boat seemed solid (floor and transom)I purchased a 140 suz. 4 stroke after it was installed I had a leak by the bolt hole....the boat yard that installed the motor just told me that the tran. is soft in that spot so the bracket bent, that's why I have a leak (they think it can be repaired by cutting the bracket and re gluing everything)....my question is this if I replace the transom (after the season)how do I deal with my brand new 20 inch Suzuki, I assume the correct thing to do is raise the transom, but then what?

First question would be which size boat do you have?

If they cut away the bracket and redo the transom, why can't they use the bracket over again to accomodate the suzuki? I'm assuming this is a 20' with a 140 on the back right? Show us some pics and we can help. Best of luck with it!

Would a soft transom really bend a motor bracket? Is there that much torque?

sorry guys I was away from my computer.....the boat is a 20 the soft spot is where the lower port side bolt goes through the transom.....the boat yard tightened and glued it up yesterday so the leak is gone, but you can see that the metal plate on the insibe of the transome is bent, from the bolt being tightened....I'm going to try to get through the season, but I have to do something this winter.
Thanks, Blackfin P.S. the boat runs great with the 140 |

I've been planning the rebuild on my 20 ft seafari. I was told by someone that when they raised the transom the boat didn't perform the same.

Personally I can’t see why any one would tell you that the boat would not perform the same. Where the motor is located upward on the transom would not cause any difference it its performance. What it would do is KEEP MORE OF THE WATER OUT OF THE BOAT by 5” more transom height. On my 23 CC I have a 30” transom and that really works great.

The only other difference would be that the center of gravity would be raised a bit by the higher motor weight but I also don't see where that bit would affect performance very much.
