Hi Capts,
I have gotten feedback from other posts, but Ill throw the question out again. 20ft Seafari. When I re-power I have decided to go in the 130-140 range. Ive heard everything about the etecs, and I doubt that I want to spend a fortune. Many have suggested the Suzuki 140s as a great engine. Are the 2 stroke zukes reliable? 4 strokes seem to dominate in reliability and effeciency. Several have suggested the V4 Yamahas. Again- 4stroke/2stroke. Reliability is my big concern along with fuel efficiency. A few Seafari owners even have 115s. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Probably want to keep the weight under 450. |

I can't speak for the 140 Suzuki 2 strokes,but I have a 03' 225 that is wonderful.Runs great and sips fuel.

I know someone who has had great success with twin 140 Tohatsu's (2-stroke) if you want to add that to the mix. I doubt you could find a more reliable engine than Tohatsu - granted, it doesn't have the sex appeal of some other brands of power but the Japanese commercial crowd has been using them for decades.

I beleive that bigger is better.
Its nice to have the extra ponies when you need them. The extra comes in handy when getting out of weather |

Mine is a 225 2 stroke, not a 4.And yes it is great.I bought the motor for a charterboat I have at a great price and can't find anything negative about it.It fire's up everytime you hit the key, burns 8gph @ 4200rpm's which is pushing a 25x9.5 center console @ 25 kts.She will turn 5600 rpm's and that's 40 kts.I don't think they make the engine anymore though.I have heard good things about the 4 strokes, lots of guides down here run them.

I posted this in another thread. I talked with some folks at this lodge when I was down in Golfito almost 2 years ago. They have 20 suzuki 115 4 stroke motors some with over 2000 hours. The guy I spoke to said they have had "No" problems with any of the motors and that these four strokes have cut the companies total fuel consumption by 50+%.

My father has a 1999 Suzuki 115 2 stroke, similar to the 140. He loves it, zero issues, except for some corosion on the mid-section.
Note: it sits on a 19 Mako at a mooring all summer. might get washed down 1 or 2 times. (hence the corriosion) Great Motor. just have to get him in a SeaCraft |
