Not a seacraft but what are the opinions.....

Ok so the used Seacraft search is not going well at all. Most of the ones I find need transom floors etc etc and the cost is 9-13 grand plus work needed. Has anyone had any experiences with Key Largos? I just looked at the 236 and can aquire a brand new 2006 236 for $14,900. I compare this to the seacrafts I have been looking at used and similar hull design etc etc brand new boat for 14,9 using my new zuki 225. Have new rig for short money. Looking for opinions.

My dive buddy has a 21 Key Largo CC with a Merc 150 on it, the boat is OK the lines do remind me of the Sea Craft, very utilitarian finish inside no frills, seems to be holding up for him. If your going to keep it for many years and it is what you like have at it. However if you are thinking you will use it for a couple years and sell I would worry about resale.

Is it true they are using the old seacraft molds? As I was told by local dealer?

They probably don't have Seacraft's actual molds but a lot of builders will use a good condition hull to make a new mold...

I've heard OK things about them but that even though they have the same hull layout, they are significantly lighter that they don't ride as well as a SC 23. So while the running surfaces are the same the 400 plus pounds makes a difference. This is from talking to people familiar with both but I have not personaly ridden in one...

It's the same with the Palm Beach. Spitting image of a SC hull, though the fit and finish is rough on both, more so on the Keywest.

I remember last years AC boat show, I was leaning over checking out the Keywest's hull when the salesman starts on me, "thats a Seacraft hull that is! Best riding boat known to man!" When I stood up and turned round he got one look at my CSC teeshirt and booked. Didn't say another word.... [img]/images/graemlins/grin.gif[/img] [img]/images/graemlins/grin.gif[/img]

Yeah I had a similar situation at the NY boat show after looking at all of the other boats they wandering to the Key Largo booth. The fit and finish was a real turn off. However I pound the hell out of things and the boat does have a utilitarian concept to it that I do like. I understand it is lighter than the potter hulls my only issue is that in my recent search for a hull. I am finding mid 70's vintage boats needing complete overhauls for 9 grand after dropping another 6-8 in glass work into the boats and outfitting with t-top for 2 electronics for 3 and trailer for 3 into the boat for 25+ before I put my motor onto it. i could in theory save 10 g and but the new Key largo/Palm Beach. I am having a hard time though because those old seacrafts are such beautys and you rarely see of the older ones on the water of which I am a huge fan.
