Trailer Brakes

I'm taking a brake from working on the boat to work on the trailer. I'm considering installing the new surge disc brakes in place of the rusted out drum brakes for my 23 SF. Anyone ever do this? How happy are you with the results? Any tricks to the installation?

First thing I did when I reworked my trailer was the brakes. The steel drum brakes are worthless. I went with the KODIAK STAINLESS . The key here is to make sure the piston within the caliper also is stainless! The kit comes complete. The hardest part was removing all the rusted up drums/parts. They work everytime and now I have no further trailer brake issues.

Be advised: You need to purchase a reverse lockout selonoid for the actuator and puncture the diaphram inside the actuator to allow more fluid to the disc calipers

Did you do all four wheels? Did you use the 3500 lb or the 6000lb?

I have a 7000# Loadmaster trailer with torsion axles. I purchased the 10" 3500# all Stainless kit (model 2/RCM-10-SS). New hydralic lines, bolts, wiring etc. It cost around $700. The brakes are on the front wheels only. The KODIAC web site also has a "How To" PDF file

They look like Tie Down's + the removable spindle numb's is a Tie Down deal.

The "Best, Cheapest" Kodiak setup is Cad plated rotor's and stainless rotor's. The Cad plated rotor's hold up just fine in saltwater.

The Kodiak rotor's are embossed with the name "Kodiak" and if they are stainless they have a "SS" imbosed in them too.

These are the rotor's and caliper's under my trailer. It was supposed to have stainless caliper's and as you can see it doesn't. No "SS" embosed.

I went outside and looked. They are stamped "Kodiak 225 SS" I must have posted the wrong picture from my old wheels.
