Default 18 SF Repower

After years of faithful service, my engine has given it up. Wondering what people are running on their 18's? Current setup is a 100 HP Mariner, would like to move it up to at least a 115, maybe a 150? All input appreciated.

I'm running a 130 Yamaha 2 stroke, 358 lbs. and it seems well suited. My Dad has been running a 150 2 stroke with over 400 lbs. seems good too, but it is stern heavy-he is looking for a smaller motor since his ocean runner died. Another good used 2 stroke under 400 lbs.would be my recommendation due to ideal weight set-up

Part I's 1987 18 SF originally powered by a Johnson 112. Slightly underpowered. Repowered around 2002 with a freshly rebuilt 1995 Johnson 150 (not sure of the weight). Beautiful power match, however he recently added the "ball" scuppers, and is very satisfied. Hope this helps.

What is the weight of the 140 hp Suzuki 4S? That'd be my first question. I only own OMC 2S's and a Yamaha 4S. Don't think I could go back to the 2S but we all know the transom problems of these beauties. Part II.

The 150 Johnson v-6 makes the 18SF fly. If you have good scuppers, the speed is noticably better than my 130 Yamaha . The 140 Zuke would be a great match too if you have the extra $$.

Yes Snookered, you are correct. With single operators and light fuel loads my brother and I run very competitively. But being the smaller, older brother, after many ass kickings, the 20 MA will run him down. The 175 2S OMC matches quite nicely, as well.

Hey, do you know Briguy from your area? A frequenter of Beer Can along with a friend of mine from the Whaler site. Plan to make a rendevous, hopefully this spring with the 15.

I spent many months there on Manatee Ave. opening the original Manhattan Bagel. Peace. Mike.

Mike-hooked up with Briguy a few times over the last few years. saw him at the yacht club New Years Eve afternoon when I was out fishing with the kids. I met your bud from the Whaler site once @ beer can when he and Brian were there in his Whaler. count me in on a get together. My mortgage bussiness is on Manatee Ave since 1999.

I have a '78 SF18 and it's got a '98 Ocean Pro (evinrude) 150 on it. It's a very sweet combination.

The great aspect of the 150 and 175 V6's were that they were the Eagle Series motors. They were 60* V instead of 90*, and were listed at about 360# dry weight, some 75# less than the 90* V, 200 and 225 HP motors. They were designed to be considerably lighter than the regular V6's. The 60 degree block is smaller and more compact which yields the bulk of the weight savings, but even the bottom pan of the cover is composite as opposed to cast aluminum.

If you can find one at a good price, it'd be a great way to go.
