hey everyone. i splashed my boat after the console rebuild and motor change. now its overheating. it only does it when its under load. the engine is an 84 2.4 but its bolted to a 97 (i think) midsection with the 2.5 exhaust hole plugged and the oval exhaust ports cut out. i posted my problem on S&F but no replies yet. im hoping some one here can tell me if i need to change the poppet valve. because the t-stats are new (it didnt have any before) and the water pump was put in in november last year and it hasnt been run till now. thanks for your help

Are you sure you have the poppet valves installed? No poppet valves will result in a loss of water pressure, especially in the top cylinders.

i put new t starts and a poppet valve in mine when i first got it and i can tell you that between the 2 of them it helps alot in the water pressure deparment. My motor had very lil pressure when i got it. now it has alot more(visual gauge not mechanical)

ive got new t-stats in it now. the poppet maybe bad but i dont know. im going to replace it because its only 20 dollars i think. supposedly my water pump impeller is suspect because it has been sitting since november. i have also been told to just hollow out the thermostats and leave the housing in there. does any one have a detailed pic of the water pump gasket? it could be on backwards or upside down or whatever u want to call it. also can anyone tell me where the serial number on the block is? dont tell me midsection because its not the original one...

Blue - Serial number for the engine can be found here.
![]() Did you swap either adaptor plate when you mounted the powerhead on the 2.5L mid-section? I might be crazy here, but it looks like you are mixing adapter plates bottom from 2.5 and top from 2.4L ![]() |

Yeah . . . I posted this on there too. 2.4 and 2.5L plates are very different.
