Default 1985 Sceptre - New Power, New Awlgrip

1985 (SeaCraft Industries) 23 Sceptre. Stored indoors most of its life. New 225 Four Stroke Johnson-Suzuki in May, 2006. Currently 82 hours and under factory warranty until May of 2009. These motors are 100% Suzuki except painted white and able to be serviced at all Johnson-Evinrude dealers. Awlgrip (Jade Mist) hull and white deck in spring of 2007. Trailer is 2004 Loadmaster dual axle. This boat has the later deck mold incorporating the fish boxes under the seat pedestals and the recessed channels in the deck for the scuppers.

I had this boat gone over top to bottom by a trusted professional who owns a boatyard when I purchased it 2 years ago. There were no significant structural or cosmetic requirements. His instructions were to make sure it was a suitable platform for repower and upgrading. The motor was replaced first and then the cosmetic stuff attended to. There are new electronics and wiring harness. All work was done by pros since above my skill level.

New Electronics:
Lowrance 332c Color DF and Mapping Chart Plotter
Navman fuel flow with totalizer
Icom 304 VHF
Clarion CD / Strereo
Ritchie Compass
All new engine gauges with repower

Performance with top up and 80 gallons on board:
3500 RPM – 16 MPH – 7 GPH
4000 RPM – 24 MPH – 8.5 GPH
4500 RPM – 29 MPH – 10.5 GPH
WOT 5650 RPM – 38 MPH

This is one of those boats between Potter and Tracker. I have owned a 1977 SF 20 and can’t determine any difference in the quality of the product. If anything, it may be a little better. After 22 years, there were only a couple of minor stress cracks that I had filled during the Awlgrip project. They were on the deck and looked to be the result of a bad boat handling.

Interior cushions are clean and in good shape but other than not doing much with the interior of the cabin, this boat has no immediate requirements that I am aware of---- other than fishing gear. Selling due to having more money tied up in the boat relative to the opportunity to use. Asking $26,500. Obviously not a project. Would consider an extremely well maintained SeaCraft 20 with recent power as partial trade if necessary.

PMTautog-Sorry for not noticing your question. The cabin has the original mousefur in decent condition. The cushions have always been stored off the boat and are fine. Sorry, I will look to see if I have any interior photos but don't believe I have. The boat is in NC and I am in DC not not close by to take some. Like any cuddy cabin, the cabin is most appropriate for storage and maybe a porta-head rather than habitation. No cosmetic or structural issues or problems if that was your interest.
Thanks. You can call me at 703.963.3663 if you need further info.
Thanks
Jack

I looked at that same model in Jan 1989 when I bought my 1989 23WA and I don't see any changes other than the seats. I am more curious about that prop you are running. I am looking into possible repowers for mine and was considering a 225 Suzuki, but with those fuel figures, I might think again or go up to the 250 HP. That is about the same performance I am getting with a 200 hp Merc, carbed engine with a top end of 43-44 mph.

Schooner, would your trade have to be for a Seacraft? I am selling my 88 mako 211 with 99 merc 225. I am looking for 11,900 or best on my mako.
