Re: Wooden Chimes on hull
They are commonly referred to as "spray rails" and as the name suggests they are to extend the chine and deflect spray down and away from the boat. I had these on one of my 20's and ended up removing them. They looked cool but I fell they changed the performance of the hull design in a negative way.
If you keep them on and you refinish them sand real good and apply many coats of polyurethane.
They are attached to the hull with a ton of 2 1/2 ss screws. It took me 2 weekends to get them off and then I had some glass repair to do as well.
