Thru transom scuppers conversion from thru floor

Anyone convert the thru floor scuppers to a thru transom scupper set-up without raising the floor ?

I have a 23' Tsunami (1975) and am thinking of doing this conversion. It seems that where the 'new' transom scuppers would exit would give a few inches vertical height vs the thru floor ones - for less unwanted water intrusion ?

Anyone done this ? How and how are the results ?

I changed my drains on my 20cc with original decks to thru transom scuppers with Rabuds mounted on the outside, and it works GREAT!

I don't have any pics available, but if you look at Strick's "Here we go again" 20' rebuild thread, I did mine the same way.

Moesly used to cross the drains under the deck (stbd side drains out port side of transom, etc.) which seems like a good idea. Would prevent water from coming in when you step on one side of boat to put drain plug in scupper!

Let me get this straight, he would cross them and then go down thru the deck or out thru the transom? What material was used for the cross over?

This is secondhand info from Skip & Carla, but my understanding is the drains were in the aft corners of cockpit sole, and were conected to hoses that crossed under the deck to drain out thru the transom. I'm sure material was conventional hose; don't believe PVC was widely available in mid-60's. I believe the scupper holes straight thru the bottom on the 20's were a change that Potter made, probably cheaper but not better!

That's what always impressed me about Carl Moesly - simple, common sense solutions to common problems that nobody else had thought of! The no-pump circulating baitwell and galley seat in the 20's and the ballast tank patent for controlling fore & aft trim are other clever ideas. I did it. Installed T H flapper scuppers wich work well used flexpvc pool pipe at mooring at way works great in yard dosesn,t drain toatly have scepter 250 suk mounted scupter in boot stripe above waterline held high as possible remenber transom 15 degree toflat floor over all happy i did it i think its much safer

I don't recall this being mentioned before but how simple stupid a solution to an age old problem. Makes me want to redo my 20 now.

I converted the through the bottom scuppers to through the transom scuppers when I put a new transom in my 1976 20 SF. I used short stubs of sink drain PVC from HD that fit into the lip on the back side of the rubber gasket for the PP ball cage. Inside the hull, I modified a fitting from Marine East http://www.marineeast.com/a_sch/sch_...d=05&pid=05_03
which was available in my area from West Marine, then joined the two fittings together with flexible hose rated for below the waterline use. Works great, but there was a lot of careful measuring and hole alignment work, a lot of added blocking behind and under the area of the through hull fitting, plus lots of cutting, filing and shaping of the fitting itself.

BTW, xing or criss crossing scupper drain lines has been around for a long time and I believe it started in sail boats to drain the lee side of the cockpit which would be at or below the actual water line when the hull was healed.
