Replacing Fuel Line 1975 20' CC
Hi all,
Ive been in the process of getting my 75 re-powered and in doing so I discovered the fuel line coming to the "nipple" inside the Battery Box is cracking and brittle. This line goes all the way back to the tank. How Hard/Easy is it to replace the whole line ? Can I access it from under the CC ? There is what appears to be access under the CC. Thanks in Advance ! Re: Replacing Fuel Line 1975 20' CC
Tex
You should have an inspection plate under the console. The fuel line should be accessible inside. Generally it's secured with two hose clamps but because of the age, you might have to cut the line off. I would secure the "New Fuel Hose" to the old at the engine. Then pull the "Old Fuel Hose" thru the inspection plate with the new line following thru in tow.(a little Vasoline on the line helps.) Hopefully the line is free and not jammed up or secured with tight hose clamps along the way, whereas you might have to remove the deck hatch Good Luck

Re: Replacing Fuel Line 1975 20' CC
Thanks Cap'n.
By inspection plate you mean the rather large hatch secured by many screws directly under the console ? I wasn't sure if it extended all the way in front of the CC where there appears to be another access point. Just wanting to be sure I take off the correct hatch. Thanks again ! |

You shouldn't have to remove the screws, it should unscrew. The screws usually hold the outside frame down.

Re: Replacing Fuel Line 1975 20' CC
I had my guy remove the access hatch. It entailed completely removing the Console to open the tank coffin. He said its the heaviest Console he ever saw ( I'll take that as "Well Built" !) Upon inspection the Filler hose was pinched between and unused mounting ear and the edge of the coffin. So Im replacing the 1/1/2" helical fill hose as well as the 5/16 fuel line. He was amazed at the great condition of the tank and mentioned his 21 foot Mako had a foamed in tank and water has eaten up the tank and it was a nightmare. My 90 Johnson is mounted and running great ( after tearing carbs down due to Hurricane IKE induced mud. The Motor did get submerged after all. But we have been running it full of Sea Foam and fogged the cylinders. All looks good there. I have a replacement binnacle control box coming today and hopefully by this weekend it will be done. Also removed ALL old wiring and am running 2 hot and 2 ground wires from Battery to a fuse panel for my accessories. I will post pics when it is done. I want to get in on the Fall flounder run now in full swing. Its only money right?

Replacing Fuel Line 20' CC- Lost Fuel Sender Wire
Hey All,
I have finished Phase I of my Project. That was to Re Power to replace blown motor, Replace fuel Fill and motor main fuel line from tank, Install Fuse Box, Water Separator, Replace broken Binnacle Control Box, Throttle and Shift cables, Red Plug wiring harness, Bilge Pump, and steering Helm unit and cable. All went well EXCEPT that after remounting Console I was pulling old brittle wires out of the conduit and I pulled the Fuel Sender wire back into conduit...ARGGG ! I tried to fish it but havent been able to get it yet. Heres my question Without removing Console again and accessing sender under the deck hatch how can I possibly retrieve the wire, and if I cant, would cutting a round access panel in the hatch to get to the sender be wise/stupid ? I would need to know WHERE the sender is located and cut my hole over it. I REALLY want a fuel gauge. Thanks in Advance !! Dave PS: Fr Frank and Bushwacker. You were right. That 90 HP Johnson pushed me 34-35. Plenty hole shot for me. |

I, too, use the Northstar fuel meter but mine is integrated with my GPS and/or depthsounder.

Re: Replacing Fuel Line 20' CC- Lost Fuel Sender Wire
That is a good link for locating prices and comparing all the stores and prices.
I just ordered one of the F210's from Rouge Wave Marine. They offered free shipping and w/o any sales tax the total price was only $115.95 delivered. I just happen to have an open 2" hole in my dash since repowering w/225 Honda. I have been trying to figure out fuel comsumption, now it will be easy. Only problem now is that we are shut down for salmon fishing until Feburary 2009 so I probably won't be going out until then, winter is starting to set in here in the Great Pacific Northwest.

Re: Replacing Fuel Line 20' CC- Lost Fuel Sender W
Looks good, and thanks for responses. So the fuel computer would need to be told how much Fuel is initially in tank and then all the rest is automatic.
